Want to join our Mission to help us serve the youth and make a difference in the Lubbock community?

Volunteers are an essential part of youth sports and we need you to help make our programs a success. Whether you have a child on the team or not, you are welcome to apply to become a volunteer in our youth sports programs.

Overview:

Typically, youth sports are anywhere from 7 to 10 weeks in length. The time commitment is approximately 2-4 hours per week, one 1-hour practices a game week, and games on Saturdays. Our programs are designed to educate youth about the specific sport, while emphasizing development in teamwork, participation, and sportsmanship. Players learn skills and lessons that help them succeed both on and off the field/court. Coaches are to assist in providing young players a fun and exciting opportunity to engage in non-contact, continuous action while developing the skills necessary to become successful players.

  

Incentives for Coaching:

  • A credit will be applied to the recreation account to be used towards a future program at the end of the season.
  • Opportunity to request up to 3 players on your team not including your own child.
  • Informational materials, coaches’ clinics, and/or coaches’ orientation/season kickoff.
  • Ability to pick practice time (based on age and space availability).
  • Obtain volunteer hours.

 

Coaching Requirements:

  • Applicant must be 18 years of age.
  • Abide by the Code of Conduct
  • Coaches are expected to attend the coaches meeting prior to the start of each season and are responsible for contacting their teams after the meeting.
  • Coaching requires knowledge of the game, rules and the ability to demonstrate and communicate proper skills and drills.
  • Deal professionally and tactfully with players, their parents, other coaches, officials, spectators, and recreation staff.
  • Work with no supervision, and attend all practices and games
  • Communicate effectively with parents on the practice schedule, game schedule, pictures day, end of team party and other misc. items that arise throughout the season

 

Essential Functions:

  • Develop and implement meaningful and instructive practice plans.
  • Teach participants the importance of sportsmanship and teamwork.
  • Teach participants the rules and regulations of the sport and program.
  • Communicate with all stakeholders in the program, parents, players, recreation staff, other coaches, and officiating team.
